Hilton Head 2012 Day 1

Today was a day I had been waiting for all summer - we were on our way to Hilton Head!! Having grown up going to Hilton Head and staying at the Island Club, it only seems fitting that we continue this tradition with our kids! I love it! The pool, beach, gym, tennis courts and anything else you could want is all right outside your door! Perfect!

We left the house at 7:30am this morning and arrived on the island at noon just in time for a quick lunch before we headed to the beach! The forecast for the week was not looking favorable due to Hurricane Isaac and we weren't sure if we would be able to stay for our entire vacation or if we'd have to leave early, so we wanted to make sure we made the most of the time that we did have!

The kids absolutely loved the beach! C couldn't get enough of the waves and being knocked down over and over and over again and S enjoyed jumping the waves and digging in the sand! The beach was so crowded today and I assume that is because it is Saturday and there were a bunch of day trippers down there! We spent a couple of hours in the sand, walked down to the Westin and built some sand castles. After our beach fun, we sent M to the grocery store for the necessities while the kids and I spent some time at the pool!

We cooked out on the grills by the beach while the kids played on the playground and then ate a most delicious salmon and shrimp dinner!

When we finally called it a day we realized that we had all gotten sunburned - OOPS!! We had been so intent on getting the most done in one day that we may have overdone it a bit:) None of us were so bad off that we were going to be miserable, but we definitely were going to cover up a bit tomorrow!
We put the kids to bed like we did last year with S in the second bedroom and C in the pack n play in the living room and we were going to isolate the rest of our evening in our bedroom. Welllll, C had other ideas! As soon as I turned my back and closed the door he screamed, somehow scaled the pack n play without knocking it over and was in our room. OH NO! I was not prepared for this at all! SO, since we didn't want him in our room, poor S was stuck with him in her room. AND, to make this an even bigger milestone in the life of the little guy, he slept in a big boy bed! The kids did pretty good considering the newness of this sleeping situation. We allowed C to sleep with a choo-choo to help make him feel a bit more comfortable about the whole thing - note that S has NEVER been allowed to have a toy in the bed with her(such double standards with a second child but we were in a do-what-you-gotta-do situation at this point!).  We could hear sweet S in there singing Jesus Loves Me and quoting the scripture that she knows (John 3:16 and Matthew 12:34) to C to try to help comfort him.  It made me cry listening to the sweetness over the monitor!!  They finally went to sleep after much talking, both stayed in their beds(thanks to S and ensuring that C knew the stay-in-the-bed-until-morning rules) and slept until C woke them both up at 6am!! I'd call it a huge success even though a little more sleep would have been ideal!!
