Waterfalls

I love hiking to see waterfalls and have been wanting to go all summer!

We are running out of summer days, so I took advantage of a 0% rain chance day and took the kids to do a bit of hiking:)

I packed the kids with way more snacks than I thought we would ever consume(every bit of it was gone by the time we got back!  Ha!!), grabbed my camera of course(S took her camera along as well and we were both snapping away at pictures) and off we went!

I had planned for 2 easy waterfall hikes.  The first was Whitewater Falls and it was super easy!  I had actually been there before, but didn't realize it until we pulled into the parking lot.  The path is asphalt and an easy walk up to see the falls.  We also went down the stairs to the next lookout landing before coming back!  The kids loved it and I was very proud that they practically ran up all of the stairs.

Next was Spoonauger Falls.  This was a bit harder of a hike for sure!  It is way off the beaten path, down a gravel road and not marked in any way at all!  I followed some internet directions and even when I pulled off the road where I thought I was suppose to be, I still wasn't 100% but was praying that we'd at least see something cool if it were not the right one so the kids wouldn't be disappointed!

We started in and it was not too bad at first and we followed alongside the river.  Then I really saw just how much rain we've gotten the last few months!  There were creeks where there use to be dry creek beds!  The first two we were able to jump from one rock to another and make it over without getting too wet.  The third however required us to take off our shoes and socks and wade across.  Oh wow!  Let me tell you, the kids did awesome but Momma was sweating it a little bit!  I could just see one of them slipping and being swept over the drop off we were crossing over!  But, we made it!!!  We then put our shoes back on and ventured on an extremely wet, slippery, narrow trail along the side of a cliff to get to the falls!  I kept reminding the kids to stay close, that wet rocks and roots are very slippery and that if they fell it was going to be a long way down:)  They did awesome!  We were able to see a beautiful waterfall and they are amazing hikers!  We will be going back to find more waterfalls for sure!

Boat Outing - 1st One!

It has been so so rainy this summer and it seems as if it has rained every.single.weekend!!

So, now that it is almost August, we finally had a chance to take the boat out for the first time time.  We were out there about 2 hours and then saw the ominous, black clouds rolling it.  We checked the radar and figured we had about 30 minutes before we were in the middle of a huge storm!  We got the boat back up on the trailer and luckily were off of the water before the storm hit!

The kids love every minute of the boat - riding, driving, going really fast and swimming!  We are hoping to get a large tube at the end of the season that we can use next year:)

Fun times ahead!

Mud Mountain Party

M's business partner's little boy had his 4th birthday party this morning at "mud mountain"(aka the back field with piles of dirt at my in-laws house)!  Oh my!!!!  It had rained all night and was still raining during the party but that did not stop the kids!  The BMI kids led the way with getting muddy and wet!  What a ball!  I have never been to a party quite like it before, and it was amazing:)  Happy birthday, D!

A NEW Park at the Airport

This morning we had a play date with some people from our Sunday school class at the Greenville airport.  It was so much fun!!  Several girls showed up with their kids and they played on the brand new playground for about an hour before heading inside to eat lunch at Airport Cafe.  It was pure craziness!  All the "big kids"(of which C was the youngest) sat by themselves and the moms and the little kids sat at a table.  I think we had 18 total!!!!  What's better than airplanes, food and friends!?:)

Hagood Mill

This morning we went to an old corn mill and watched as they made grits and cornmeal.  Also, they were making "moonshine"(which was really just water! Ha!), a blacksmith was making a spork(spoon on one side and fork on the other so as not to take up as much room in their sacks), quilts and wooden guns and swords.  They had these cute little 3 week old miniature pot bellied pigs.  Oh my!  SO CUTE!!!  We also had honey straws which were delicious!  There were several old cars that they boys checked out while S and I got situated and claimed a table for lunch!

It was something M and I have been wanting to do for a while and a lot of fun!  It was much more crowded than we had expected.  They have bluegrass music playing too, but they started up late and we had to leave before they got it all together!  We came home with fresh ground grits and oat meal!  Yum!!
