We even got a kinda extra day because on Friday, even though we were still staying in New Bern, Shannon and Jack and Robin were staying at the beach and we spent the day with them enjoying the beach with our cousins, riding the water slide for the first of MANY times and went to Sanitary Seafood Restaurant in Morehead City with our family of four, Shannon, Jack, Robin, my Dad and Robert. It was such a great time with sun, food and family!
Friday -
We arrived at our awesome condo in Atlantic Beach on Saturday, but didn't get any beach/pool time because we were getting settled and ready for the wedding. But, we hit the ground, or should I say beach, running on Sunday!
My dad was here Sunday and Monday and the kids were beside themselves having him to play with! Sunday, after plenty of time spent at the pool and the beach, Dad put together a treasure hunt for the kids and they were able to find Blackbeard's treasure(both of the kids are on a HUGE pirate/Blackbeard kick right now so it was so fun to watch them!)!
Sunday -
On Monday, we were at the beach bright and early, but had to come back to the condo for like an hour or so mid-morning because of a quick thunderstorm. It didn't keep us away long, and then we were back at it again! C even caught a crab in his net while we were down there. I actually feel pretty sorry for that poor crab - he was treated with less than gentle care:) After a full day of beach fun, M and I got a date night out(thank you Dad for watching the kids!!) and went to walk around the boardwalk and eat in Beaufort, NC! It was a much needed evening together!
Monday -
On Tuesday, we did the beach and pool both before lunch and then both kids took great naps(which is unheard of for S but she napped several days while we were down there!) before we went to Fort Macon and toured around. While we were there S lost her 3rd tooth and we were all so glad that it was FINALLY out(it had been hanging in there by practically nothing for days!)! Some people we met at the beach earlier that morning had told us that the NC Aquarium was going to be releasing a few sea turtles back into the ocean so we went to Fort Macon State Park where we thought we would be among a handful of people to show up, but boy were we wrong. There were hundreds of people there to watch the turtle release! S and I thought it was absolutely amazing!! It was so so cool!!!
Tuesday -
A couple of weeks before we went to the beach, I was talking with a friend and we realized that we were going to be at the beach the same week less than a mile away from each other! AWESOME!! The kids were ecstatic to see Mark and his cousin Morgan! They played and played and went down the water slide probably 50 times that morning! We spent the rest of the day at the beach and then back for an evening swim in the pool:)
Wednesday -
Thursday it started to get very windy at the beach! We went to the beach for just a bit and then spent most of the morning at the pool. For dinner we went to Amos Mosquito's, a delicious seafood restaurant, just down the street and were back in time to play on the playground at the condo before bed!
Thursday -
Friday we woke up to rain:( But, not to fear, it was gone before we would have been out of the condo anyway! We started the day at the pool because, again, it was very windy! After short naps, we went to the beach as this was our last day of vacation and we were determined to get to the beach again:) It was so windy that the sand was stinging our legs as we walked across it. The waves were huge(I think about 6ft or so) and M waded out with C which they both had a ball with. The kids collected shells for quite a while and then we went to the pool for some more water slide fun before ordering pizza to the condo!
Friday -
We packed up pretty much everything Friday night except a couple of bags of clothes and toiletries we were still using with the plan to wake up at 6am and just throw everything into the car so that we could get back home at a decent time.
But, our plans were foiled! C woke up about 10pm not feeling well and finally, around 2:30am we made the decision to pack things up and drive to the ER in Jacksonville, NC, about an hour away. We arrived around 4:15am and were there 4 1/2 hours with the diagnosis that he had a viral infection as well as an ear infection. Poor kid was pitiful! We gave him some Tylenol and Antibiotics and got on the road for the long drive home. We made it home around 4:30pm and were so glad to be back in our own house and sleeping in our own beds!
It was a great week(bad ending!) and we had lots of fun together as a family!!
