Camping with Sunday School

Yesterday four families from our Sunday School class met up at Chau Ram Park for a one-night camping trip!  We had so much fun!!!

Last night, we all arrived about 5:30/6pm and started getting our campsites set up!  The kids were wild with excitement and couldn't wait to play and run crazy!  So, while we set up, there was thankfully a swingset right next to the site where all the kids played!  After we finished, we headed down to the big playground before dinner.  Dinner was Subway and of course hot dogs followed by s'mores!  We stayed up way past our bedtime and then once we got in the tent the craziness started all over again!!

The kids were up several times throughout the night so we didn't get much sleep - as we expected!  Bright and early the campground started coming to life!  First on the list was to get some coffee going in our roughing-it coffee makers:)  Then we started cooking bacon, eggs and chocolate chip pancakes! Deliciousness!!!  We all thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast!

All too soon it was time to pack up the sites!  The kids ran crazy again while the adults got everything put away!  When we had finished, we went on a beautiful, fairly long hike through the woods!  There was poison ivy EVERYWHERE!  We made it out, hopefully unscathed by the poison ivy, and all worn out!

What a fun night with friends!!!  We are already talking about doing it again in the fall:)

Mock Swim Meat

S had a mock swim meet tonight!  The point of this meet is to familiarize the swimmers with how a swim meet works, and also gets the parent volunteers familiar with their jobs!

We arrived at the pool to get the team picture done first!  Then after the pictures were done, the team swam their warm up laps and just as they were preparing to start the meet, it started storming!  Ugh!!!  In the mean time, the kids filled up on junk from concessions as we waiting out the storm.  After about an hour of waiting it out, they decided to cancel the meet!

However, there had been the intention of celebrating the beginning of the swim season with ice cream after the meet, so of course now there was ice cream that needed to be eaten!  The kids all got in an extremely long line and by this time it was raining!  I was pretty much done at this point, so I told the kids we would stop on the way home and get them ice cream!  It all worked out ok!

I hope that next week, when the real meets start, that the kids at least get to swim some of the events!

S is on the bottom row with her legs pulled up!

1st Grade Awards

This morning was S's first grade award program!  I love that they give each student at least 2 awards!!  They are all so proud, and rightly so:)

S was so excited to get to school this morning, and we even were priveleged enough to walk her in:)  She was all smiles as her class walked into the cafeteria and up onto stage!

This year she received 4 awards:

  • Academic Excellence
  • Excellence in Art
  • 110% Award in PE
  • Most Outstanding Student - this one is a prestigious one that only 2 kids in each class receive!
I am so proud of our little smarty-pants!!!

Final Gymnastics Classes

C is winding down his spring gymnastics classes!  He has loved it and has done so well!!!  He is just pure monkey!!

Both of the kids are taking classes this summer, so it won't be long before we are back at it again:)

These first ones were taken last week from upstairs, some of them are pictures of the monitor used to watch him when they go to parts of the gym I can't see!

Today was the day parents got to come in and observe!!!  So fun to watch him!  He is so good at gymnastics and was hands down the best listener and followed directions better than anybody else(I'm a mama and I'll brag on my kid if I want! HA!))!  Just goes to show that he can do it, when he is interested in doing it!  He loves, loves, loves being a monkey:)

SO proud of him and his medal!!
