May Day Celebration

I found out a couple of weeks ago that S's school celebrates May Day and that it is something similar to a homecoming court - kinda!?:)

There is a 5th grade May Day court, like a homecoming court, with about 5 boys and 5 girls who are all dressed up nice and apparently at some point the other fifth graders have voted(not sure what the voting is based on!) and on May Day a king and queen are crowned.

In addition to the crowning of the king and queen, a handful of K4 kids are chosen to dance/walk around the May Pole while a couple of kids play their recorders.  Also, a few Kindergartners are chosen to escort/carry the crowns for the king and queen and the scroll for the principal to announce who will be crowned.

It is a very cute celebration!!

S was chosen to be one of the escorts!  She was told to wear a pretty dress and for parents to come and take pictures(you don't have to ask me twice! HA!)!  Her friend from class, Isaac, was also an escort and they got to walk together!  I know his parents(his mom was S's teacher originally until she ended up on bed rest with a complicated pregnancy at 18 weeks - baby is 2 months old and everyone is great!) and we were like the Paparazzi on them!  It felt like Homecoming or Prom in so many ways!

I loved the entire celebration and was so happy to be there and watch S be a part of it!!

S was the one who got to carry the crown for the
May Day Queen and she said that her favorite part was
when she got to hand the crown to the principal, Ms. Gibson!
