Mother's Day in Charleston

This past weekend we were in Charleston!!

We stayed at a house on Folly Beach(it was not a place we will be staying again, but it worked!) and enjoyed our time on the beach and around town!

We arrived Friday at lunchtime and went immediately down to the beach.  S LOVES the beach and would be content playing in the sand and splashing in the shallow water all day!  C-man we discovered has sensitive eyes and didn't like the beach when it was really sunny out.  A hat and sunglasses helped, but he had a blast when it was overcast and loved splashing, splashing, splashing!!

One of my best friends from college, Lee, and her family - including her baby boy who is 7 months old - were also staying on Folly and finishing up a week of vacation.  We met over at their condo, along with my other dear friend, Shelley, who lives in Charleston, and had dinner!  It was wonderful!!  We usually have a Clemson girls' weekend but it just isn't going to work out this year so I was so excited to get to see these girls while we were there!  The kids played - mine were crazies as always and Lee's little boy just hung out and was mesmerized by all the activity - and the adults caught up and ate an awesome low country boil!

On Saturday we went out to the lighthouse at the end of Folly Beach.  I have never been out there, and honestly didn't even know there was one!  S again loved running around the beach and collecting shells - I think we came home with about 300 shells!!  We saw some dolphins that were really close to the beach and explored around on a beautiful stretch of beach before heading back to the house.  In the afternoon we ventured to Market St. in downtown Charleston.  I haven't been down there since the gave the market an uplift and it was amazing!  I think I could walk around in Charleston all day and be perfectly happy!  We went down to the water and the kids ran around pushing their own strollers and got some energy out!  We had dinner at a newer place on James Island, Heart Woodfire Grill.  SO GOOD!!!  Everything we had was fabulous!  We went back to the house and finished our day with a bowl of ice cream out on the house's huge deck(the only good part about the house was that it had a great deck!!).

Sunday morning we woke up and it was very overcast.  We went to breakfast at Lost Dog Cafe on Folly for Mother's Day!  We never go anywhere for breakfast and this is what I wanted for my Mother's Day gift!  I'm so glad we went!  It was delicious!  While we were eating it started raining:(  We went back to the house and hung out for a while, watched TV and read(I don't know how, but I finished a 400+ page book while we were there!).  It stopped raining late morning and we went down to the beach.  This is the day that C had the most fun for sure!  It was very cloudy and just how he liked it!  S didn't care what the weather conditions were, she loved it!  After the kids got up from their naps we went back downtown.  We walked around for quite a while, pushing the kids in strollers, and the ended up at Battery Park where we let them run loose:)  Again, finished the day with a bowl of ice cream on the deck! HA!

Monday we woke up and packed everything into the car and headed to the Charleston Aquarium.  We got there a little before they opened and had time to find two letterboxes:)  My friend Shelley works at the aquarium and was nice enough to be our personal tour guide for awhile until she had to go to a meeting!  I miss all my Clemson girls!!  We enjoyed the aquarium and the kids were mesmerized by all the fish!  There were so many cool things to see and this was a perfect way to end our trip!!

It was a perfect weekend and the best Mother's Day yet!!
