Williamsburg

This Spring Break we are doing a "Tour of Virginia" trip!!:)

Wednesday

This morning we pulled out VERY EARLY(as in, it took a couple hours before it wasn't pitch black anymore! Like 5:45AM!!!!!) and headed off for our very busy, very fun-packed Spring Break vacation!

We arrived in Williamsburg, VA at about 1:30pm.  We got our tickets for Thursday and they even let us have access for the rest of Wednesday as well(woohoo!!).  We got our bearings, ate ginger cakes from Raleigh's Tavern Bakery, toured the Governor's Palace and toured the art museum checking out furniture that had been built with secret compartments.  But, the highlight of the day was taking a carriage ride.  The carriage had actually been built bulletproof because Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles had ridden in it last year!

After we shut down the town, we grabbed a quick dinner, made a grocery run to stock up the condo, checked into the condo(which was lovely!!) and lights out!

Virginia is all about some LOVE:)

The tulips were in full bloom!!

He was showing us how to shoot a musket.

Thursday
This morning we arrived at the Visitor's Center just before the Revolutionary City opened and took a nice walk into the city.  We watched the Welcome to Williamsburg skit, visited the Geddy House and Foundry, post office, apothecary, Charlton's Coffeehouse, ate lunch at Kings Arms Tavern on the back patio and it was beautiful.  After lunch we toured the silversmith, milliner, blacksmith, tin shop... it was the day of visiting the trades!!  We then went to a reenactment in the courtroom(Order in the Courts) where M was able to participate and be one of the justices.  The kids joined in at the Running of the Engine as part of the bucket brigade.  Then it was on the Magazine, brickyard(the kids' favorite for the day.. the pictures below will show you why!) and cabinet maker.  We went back to the main street and watched the Marching into Evening program with the Fife and Drum Corp(which was my favorite of the day!).  We purchased our souvenirs(me - a mug; M - a small metal cannon for his office desk; C - a musket; S - a quill with ink) and ate dinner at Shields Tavern.

By the end of the day, we'd logged 13,800 steps and 6.8 miles!!!!
