Chimney Rock

I have been wanting to take the kids to Chimney Rock for a very long time now and it has just never worked out!  But, today was our day!!!  I woke them bright and early so that we could get on the road.  It is just over an hour drive and we arrived about 5 minutes before the gates opened at 8:30am.  We ducked into a little coffee shop in the downtown area just outside the gates and the kids got a quick sugar rush before we started!

First on the agenda was climbing up to the top of the "chimney"!  The elevator was broken(I knew this already luckily so it wasn't a surprise!) so we started up the 499 stairs!  It wasn't really too bad and it was a cool morning and quite enjoyable!  When we made it to the top it was soooo windy!  We were all quite proud of ourselves and the kids thought climbing over all the big rocks and checking out how little everything below us looked was pretty need!  Coming down was super easy for the kids, but my knees were so sore and wobbly when we finally reached the botttom - definitely getting old!  HA!!

We had a snack and re-hydrated and then went on the Great Woodland Adventure Trail and met Grady the Groundhog and his woodland friends along the way.  It was only .6 miles, but this was about the limit for the kids after the stair-climbing earlier!  At the end of the trail was the real Grady the Groundhog and a den with some forest creatures you can check out!  The albino chipmunk was a favorite!

Before leaving town, we ate lunch riverside with a view of Chimney Rock at the Old Rock Cafe.  The view was amazing, but the food left much to be desired!  We were a very tired momma and kiddos by this time and were glad to be on our way home(with movies in the car so I got a quiet ride!!)!

Breakfast of champions:)

This was a favorite for them - The Subway! It was a tunnel
through the rocks!
