Camping and Boating

This weekend we went camping at Lake Hartwell State Park with the Weavers!!

We arrived Saturday, mid-afternoon, with the weather forecasted to be a clear, balmy Labor Day Weekend!!  We set up our camps, let the kids play on the playground, checked out the lake and then started our dinner preparations(we had quesadillas, using an electric skillet(HAHAH!!  We totally did not rough it!)).  After dinner we ate s'mores and sat around the campfire for a bit before headed towards the tent.  We knew it was going to take the kids a while to go to sleep as they were sharing an air mattress, so we started the process about 9pm!  It took a very.long.time for them to finally settle down(I'm sure the 2 s'mores they each ate didn't contribute at all...sarcasm!).

Then, I'm not exactly sure what happened to our beautiful, 0% chance of rain night, but we got POURED on!!  I mean, thunder, lightning, the whole bit!  It rained pretty much all night!  And we got pretty much NO sleep!  We did go back to bed around 4am and slept great for the next 2 hours - ugh!!  It had been very hot the on Saturday and tent was so humid and hot before the rain came that we had sweat ourselves to sleep the night before and all made a beeline for the showers as soon as we got up!  Then, COFFEE(again, in an electric coffee maker!)!!

After coffee and chocolate chip pancakes(courtesy of Ben, and, yes, on the electric skillet!) we got the boat in the lake for the first time this season!  Building the house has just not allowed us any spare minutes, much less days, to get out on the lake!  It was very crowded being a holiday weekend but we still enjoyed it!  The kids ate it up!!!!  They love to swim(which is what we did mostly!) and "go fast" as we cruise around the lake!

After we had had enough of the lake for a bit, we came back to the campground to regroup and eat lunch.  We hung around for a bit and then the guys took the kids back out on the boat again while I packed up our stuff and Melissa helped me!  We had intended on staying for 2 nights, but after not sleeping at all Saturday night, we decided we couldn't handle another repeat!  When the guys and kids returned we got everyone cleaned up, cooked a hot dog dinner and then our family said good-bye to the Weavers(they did stay 2 nights because somehow they managed to sleep a bit better than us on Saturday!) and made our way back to our own beds!!!

We made lots of memories, laughed a lot, got hot, drank lots of coffee(well, I did anyway!) and enjoyed our time with family and friends!  That being said, we are going to stick to either fall/spring camping trips in the future(to avoid the oppressive heat!) or take mountain camping trips if we go in the summer!!

When we pulled the anchor up after swimming, we pulled an
entire tree up as well!

Didn't even make it out of the campground after dinner!

She wasn't too far behind - this NEVER happens!!
