Mothers Day Weekend in Jekyll Island

We just got back from a much needed mini-beach-vacation to Jekyll Island, GA!  It was so beautiful and the weather was absolutely perfect!  We kept saying on the way home that we wish we'd had just one more day to spend playing in the ocean and relaxing on the baeach

Friday we left mid-morning and it ended up taking us about 6 hours to get to the hotel due to traffic and stopping for lunch.  We immediately went to the beach and found lots of little critters in the tide pools.  Then the kids wanted to play in the pool.  It was getting close to dinner at this point, but we didn't want to stop the fun, so we ordered dinner from the hotel restaurant and ate it there!  After dinner, we drove down to the other end of the island and spent some time on the fishing pier and walking around the little sound area.  Such a beautiful night!!

SO RARE these days!!

Yesterday we ate breakfast at the hotel and by 9:30am were on our rented bikes exploring the island!  We went everywhere!  We started off in the historic area where the Jekyll Island Club is located and then rode along the marsh around the end of the island.  We were getting hungry but did not realize how far away from any kind of food we were!  Oops!!  By the time we got to Tortuga Jacks we were beyond starving!  The restaurant was just what we needed - chips and salsa immediately served as we sat outside in the shade listening to live music!  After a large lunch we got back on the bikes and went back to the historic area for ice cream that had been spotted by the kids earlier in the morning and explored the sea turtle hospital.  We were now officially done with the bikes and ready to get back to the hotel!  We enjoyed dinner at a quaint little place, Sunrise Grille, and then went to Driftwood Beach!  There were two weddings that were just ending as we walked onto the beach!  Such a pretty night for a wedding!  The kids could have climbed trees for hours upon hours, but the sun set and we were all tired after biking all day!

The Spanish moss was so pretty!

The kids weren't the only ones that enjoyed climbing the trees!

This morning we packed up and ate breakfast at Sandcastle Cafe on St. Simon's Island!  The breakfast was probably a top 3 of all time!  SO good and SO MUCH FOOD!!  We made the kids walk around the lighthouse area and downtown and take pictures for Mother's Day! After we had made them suffer enough, M and I drove by the house that we stayed at on our honeymoon on the island and then got back on the road to head home after a wonderful, fantastic weekend away!  We all said that we should make this getaway a Mother's Day tradition:)
