July 4th Weekend

This weekend we have kinda been all over the place - and I would have it no other way!!

Friday, which was actually 4th of July, we started our day at the gym and then met the Weavers at the pool mid-morning for a swim and lunch!  The kids had fun, the daddy's were both exhausted from lugging kids and throwing them in the air, and the mommas got a chance to chat:)  And then we got in the water too!  There was hardly anybody up there the entire 2 hours we were there which was surprising, but very awesome!  The pool to ourselves with good friends!!

Friday afternoon, M went off to work on the house(and spent all day Saturday there as well trying to get the yard graded!) and Gigi came into town!  After they played outside for a bit, and I read my book inside, we went junkin' at the Goodwill!  It was an adventure for them and Gigi gave them both a bit of spending money($1!!) to buy what they wanted!  They had a grand time carefully choosing just the right things - by the looks of what they came away with, Gigi splurged a bit and gave them more that $1 by the time it was over:)  S purchased 3 stuffed animals(ick! germs!!) and a fancy clutch/purse, while C got a bow and arrow, a stuffed monkey and a ball that squeaks(which we later determined was a dog toy!  BUHAHAHA!!!)!  They were both very proud of their loot!  And while they were picking out their stuff, I was having a hay day in the $1 section scoring them their wardrobes for fall:)  Win!!

Love these 3!!

The only thing I did related to July 4th to celebrate was make
this cookie and fruit flag:)

Saturday, Gigi and I got an early start with the kids with plans for a beautiful day of hiking!!  She came over prepared with a box of munchkins from Dunkin Donuts and we were off - and the kids actually wore patriotic colors today, unlike yesterday when I totally forgot:)!!  First stop of the day was for a scenic potty break at Ceasers Head Overlook! The kids could have spent all day here and loved the "cave" (aka Devil's Kitchen).  We watched a very eclectic group of motorcyclists and then we took off for our destination of Dupont State Park.  Luckily, we got there early, about 10:30am, and were able to get a parking spot in the parking lot.  When we left about 1pm, there were cars lined up forever along the street!  Apparently this gorgeous, relatively cooler July day brought everyone to the mountains!  We hiked a very easy, gravel trail to High Falls and had lunch at the picnic shelter overlooking the falls.  Afterwards we hiked to the covered bridge and then made our way home.  I had wanted to do Triple Falls as well, but after a tantrum from C on the hike out, we decided to call it a day!  Boy were we glad we did, because the tantrum picked back up on the car ride home.  Oiy!!  We'll do Triple Falls next time!

We came home, had a bowl of ice cream(naturally!) and the kids had a short rest time while us old folks caught quick catnaps!!  The kids were in no mood to sleep, so out Gigi and the kids go to play outside some more while I got some ironing done for our beach trip coming up soon!

By dinner time, I didn't have it in me to attempt cooking anything so we took the kids to Fatz and enjoyed a great dinner with some surprising well-behaved kiddos considering how tired they must have been!  What an awesome day!!

Ceasers Head

The beginning of the trail was actually a gated-off
gravel road!  I'm telling you, this was a super easy
hike!!

High Falls is only about .6 miles from the parking lot!

Gigi taught the kids to sit on top of a fence!  I hadn't
realized they had never done it before!  C was a bit nervous
about it, can you tell?

This was not long before his tantrum - he looks a bit sleepy, but still so cute!!

Dinner!

And we all inhaled it!!!  Thanks for a fun couple of days, Gigi!!
Today was Sunday, and we RESTED!!!
